Joint importance of multistate systems
نویسنده
چکیده
Importance measures in reliability engineering are used to identify weak areas of a system and signify the roles of components in either causing or contributing to proper functioning of the system. Traditional importance measures for multistate systems mainly concern reliability importance of an individual component and seldom consider the utility performance of the system. This paper extends the joint importance concepts of two components from the binary system case to the multistate system case. Considering the performance utility of the system, the joint structural importance and the joint reliability importance are defined. The joint structural importance measures the relationship of two components when the reliabilities of components are not available. The joint reliability importance is then inferred when the reliabilities of the components are given. The properties of the importance measures are also investigated. A case study for an offshore electrical power generation system is finally given.

Joint Importance Measures in Network System
Many real world systems (electric power, transportation, telecommunication, etc) are multistate systems composed of multistate components in which system reliability can be computed in terms reliabilities of its components. Such systems may be regarded as flow networks whose arcs (components) have independent, discrete, and multi-valued random capacities. An arc can, at different conditions, be...
متن کاملOn the Joint Reliability Importance for k-out-of-n Systems
In this paper, the concept of joint reliability importance (JRI) of two or groups of components in a coherent system with independent components have been studied. The JRI is defined as the rate at which the system reliability improves as the reliabilities of the two or groups of components improve. Generally, the sign and the value of the JRI represent the type and the degree of i...
متن کاملJoint signature of two or more systems with applications to multistate systems made up of two-state components
The structure signature of a system made up of n components having continuous and i.i.d. lifetimes was defined in the eighties by Samaniego as the n-tuple whose k-th coordinate is the probability that the k-th component failure causes the system to fail. More recently, a bivariate version of this concept was considered as follows. The joint structure signature of a pair of systems built on a co...
متن کاملMeasures of component importance in repairable multistate systems - a numerical study
In [10] dynamic and stationary measures of importance of a component in a repairable multistate system were introduced. For multistate systems little has been published until now on such measures even in the nonrepairable case. According to the Barlow-Proschan type measures a component is important if there is a high probability that a change in the component state causes a change in whether or...
متن کاملAnalyzing the Survival of Patients with Breast Cancer with a Multistate Model
Introduction: Breast cancer is the second most common cancer and one of the most common causes of death in women. Metastasis is also a challenge for breast cancer patients, affecting their survival. This study aimed to determine the survival rate and measure the factors affecting the progression of the disease from the time of diagnosis by considering metastasis as an intermediate condition usi...
